Effective 23 October 2026
Customer privacy
This notice is for a person whose phone is used to pay a business, or to receive a payout, through AFRIPEI. The full policy is on the privacy policy page.
What the business sends
The business chooses to collect or to send money. AFRIPEI receives the phone number, the amount in TZS, and a reference for that payment or payout. A name is stored only when the business sends one. On a checkout page, you type the phone number yourself. The number should be the handset that will confirm the prompt.
Customers pay with M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Mixx by Yas, or Halopesa. You do not create an AFRIPEI account to pay. The prompt arrives on the phone number that was sent.
What we do with it
- Send the collection or the payout to the mobile-money wallet on that number.
- Show the business the status, the amount, the phone number, and the fee snapshot for that transaction.
- Send an SMS from AFRIPEI when a payment or payout succeeds or does not succeed. The text names the shop, the amount, and a reference.
- Keep the ledger row. A completed payment is not deleted to tidy a record.
We do not sell the phone number. We do not use it for advertising. We do not ask for a card number or a wallet PIN. The PIN stays on the handset.
Who else sees it
The licensed payment partner that prompts the handset receives the number, the amount, the currency, and a reference. AFRIPEI does not put that partner’s name on the page you pay from. If the business registered a webhook, the event is posted to the address the business chose.
SMS is delivered through a gateway with the sender ID AFRIPEI. The gateway needs the destination number and the message.
How long it stays
The payment or payout stays in the ledger for as long as the business’s records and the law require. An SMS is a notice of that transaction. It is not an account you can sign in to.
If something is wrong
Start with the business you paid or that paid you. They can see the transaction in the merchant portal. You can also write through the contact page. Include the reference from the SMS if you have it. Do not send a PIN, a password, or a one-time code.
Your right to complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission under the Personal Data Protection Act, 2022 of Tanzania is not limited by this notice.
