Fees
Pricing
The fee is a rule on the merchant account, stored with the transaction. It is not a constant inside the payment request, and it is not rewritten after the money moves.
What is stored
- The provider cost of that transaction.
- The AFRIPEI fee.
- The merchant net, which is what the account keeps.
Collections and payouts both carry this snapshot. On a payout, available balance must cover the amount and the fee before the payout is created. The portal shows the rule that applies to the account, and each transaction shows the amounts that were stored with it.
What a request does not do
You do not send a fee in the JSON body. You send the amount in TZS, with two decimal places. AFRIPEI applies the rule that is active for that merchant at that moment and keeps the result on the row.
When the rule is chosen
The rule is the one on the merchant at the moment the payment or payout is created. A later change to the account does not rewrite payments that already exist. The portal can show a different rule tomorrow. Yesterday’s transaction still shows yesterday’s snapshot.
What the three amounts mean
- Provider cost. The cost of moving that transaction on the rail.
- AFRIPEI fee. The fee kept by AFRIPEI on that transaction.
- Merchant net. What the account keeps after those amounts.
There is no public rate card on this site. The numbers that apply to an account are the ones in the merchant portal, and the numbers that applied to a transaction are the ones stored on that transaction.
Payouts and the balance
A collection does not ask you to pre-fund the fee. A payout does. Available balance has to cover the amount you are sending and the fee on that payout. If it cannot, the payout is refused and nothing is reserved.
Currency
Amounts are decimal strings. Tanzanian shillings use two decimal places. 500.00 is five hundred shillings. Do not send minor units, and do not send a bare integer.
